Prof Leif Erik Sander - "Mechanisms of action studies in humans – lessons from COVID-19"

Prof. Sander’s main interests are respiratory infections, such as COVID-19, and other highly contagious infectious diseases (e.g., MPVX, Malaria). His research focuses on understanding the immunological basis of host-pathogen and host-vaccine interactions. His laboratory is involved in various national and international collaborative projects which investigate the immunological processes underlying vaccinations with the ultimate aim of improving prophylactic drugs and immunization strategies for infectious diseases. His clinical focus includes the treatment and prevention of respiratory and lung infections, and his team further aims to understand the crucial role of the innate immune system during pneumonia pathogenesis.
