Bastian Klodewig

Bastian Klodewig earned his MSc degree in 2025 from the University of Würzburg. For his master’s thesis, he joined the Beisel group at the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI), where he contributed to the development of a CRISPR-based base editor for the treatment of genetic disorders. In October 2025, he began his PhD in the Saliba lab, focusing on the application of deep learning frameworks to enable targeted perturbation of key genes during infection. Outside the lab, Bastian enjoys cooking and playing football.
