Insights from the site of the new HIRI

HIRI is getting a new institute building. Before that, however, an old existing building had to be demolished. Impressions of the construction site.

Founded in 2017 as a location of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig in cooperation with the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU), the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI) is housed on the Würzburg medical campus until its own building is constructed.

To make way for the new HIRI building as planned, the former urology department on the medical campus has been completely torn down.

The building of the Würzburg University Hospital was in need of demolition and was pulled down piece by piece.

The construction of the new HIRI institute building with state-of-the-art facilities will start in 2023.
