HIRI is getting a new institute building. Before that, however, an old existing building had to be demolished. Impressions of the construction site.
Founded in 2017 as a joint venture of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig and the Julius Maximilians University in Würzburg (JMU), the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Research (HIRI) is housed on the Würzburg medical campus until its own building is constructed.
To make way for the new HIRI building as planned, the former urology department on the medical campus has been completely torn down.
The building of the Würzburg University Hospital was in need of demolition and was pulled down piece by piece.
The new HIRI institute building with state-of-the-art facilities is scheduled for completion by spring 2026.
