Gianluca Prezza has received the PhD Award from the Friends of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) for his outstanding dissertation. In the lab of Alexander Westermann at the Helmholtz Institute Würzburg (HIRI), he focused on small RNAs (sRNAs) in Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron. This bacterium is one of the most prevalent species in the human gut microbiota.
