A trio of awards

HIRI scientists impress with poster presentations

Linda Popella and Valentina Cosi, a postdoctoral researcher and a PhD student in the lab of HIRI director Jörg Vogel, were recognized for their outstanding poster presentations at the annual meeting of the Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Society. Both presented their research on antisense peptide nucleic acids and their applicability as novel RNA-based antibiotics. The poster awards are valued at 250 US dollars each.

At the international conference of the Cluster of Excellence “Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections”, Lena Amend, a postdoctoral researcher in Alexander Westermann's group, presented her studies on the interaction between the commensal intestinal bacterium Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron and the pathogen Salmonella Typhimurium. Out of a total of 120 posters, her presentation was awarded the first prize of 200 euros.
