New @ HIRI: Lena Amend

The HIRI family warmly welcomes Lena Amend!

Lena Amend obtained her PhD in the group of Till Strowig on the HZI main campus in Braunschweig for characterizing the mucus utilization strategies of Prevotella copri. Additionally, she was involved in several cross-collaborations to study the role of the intestinal microbiota in rheumatic disease and pancreatic cancer.

Lena just joined the Helmholtz Institute Würzburg (HIRI) as a postdoc. In the Westermann lab, she will work within the ERC-funded project “GUT-CHECK: Deciphering commensal-host-pathogen metabolic interactions to combat intestinal infections”, dissecting cross-feeding mechanisms between Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron and Salmonella enterica.
