The first HIRI Science Slam on “RNA & Infection"

Anuja Kibe, Phd Student in the research group of Neva Caliskan, won the first prize at the HIRI RNA & Infection Science Slam.

Are viruses bad? Surely not per se! According to HIRI PhD student Anuja Kibe we carry around quite a bit of genetic material originating from viruses. Deeply burried in our genome these ancient viral genes help to develop memory or the placenta for example. Who would have thought? Her short yet eloquent and simple description of the importance of viral genes earned Anuja the main prize at the first HIRI Science Slam on RNA & Infection - congratulations!
