New @ HIRI: Orian Gilmer

The HIRI family warmly welcomes Orian Gilmer!

Orian Gilmer earned his BSc and MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Strasbourg in France. For his PhD, he joined the lab of Dr. Roland Marquet and Jean-Christophe Paillart. There, he studied the structure of 5´region of HIV-1 genomic RNA. He investigated how some viral proteins involved in the cell cycle were able to interact with this RNA and rearrange its structure.

At the Helmholtz Institute Würzburg, Orian is now starting his work as a postdoctoral researcher in the Caliskan lab, where he will be studying the structural heterogeneity of HIV-1 frameshift elements using single molecules and chemical probing approaches.
