Mapping hidden RNA regulators in Salmonella infection

HZI Paper of the Month Award for Hoda Kooshapour

Hoda Kooshapour, PhD student in the laboratory of Alexander Westermann at the Helmholtz Institute Würzburg (HIRI), has received a Paper of the Month Award from the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig.

In the publication “Intramacrophage RIL-seq uncovers an RNA antagonist of the Salmonella virulence-associated small RNA PinT,” Hoda Kooshapour discovered a small RNA that blocks the activity of PinT, a molecule associated with Salmonella virulence. The study was published in Nucleic Acids Research in December 2025.
