Communication as the key in day-to-day laboratory work

‘Sustainable Thursday’ with a focus on the lab

As part of the ‘Sustainable Thursday’ held on August 28 at the Helmholtz Institute Würzburg (HIRI), Laboratory and Infrastructure Manager Christiane Albert-Weißenberger impressively demonstrated the importance of communication in everyday laboratory operations.

This was illustrated right at the beginning through an experiment that clearly showed that even simple tasks can only be successfully completed with clear and purposeful communication.

In a collaborative setting, participants were encouraged to exchange views on the ideas they had gathered. The conclusion: communication is essential and the key to sustainable research and a positive working environment. © HIRI / Yara Huisl

Following this, participants were invited to contribute their creativity. Together, they held a discussion around three central questions:

  • Where can lab communication drive sustainability?
  • Which form of communication works best?
  • How can we initiate sustainable communication practices tomorrow?

The event emphasized the importance of communication for sustainable research and workplace culture.

Impressions of the New Year’s Reception

HIRI Director Jörg Vogel reflected on the highlights of 2022 and looked ahead to what 2023 has in store for the institute.
